The supplements market is worth over £100 Billion. However it is very important to state that a supplement is exactly that – a supplement to your diet to help you hit your goals if you are not getting what you need from your food.

You should not have meals consisting of pills and shakes.

In a previous post we explained how Robofit gives you specific macros to hit. For some, this may be difficult and so supplements can be very helpful.

So what do we recommend?

Before I go on, I will supply some examples of great products out in the market. We have no affiliate links to these brands and are not making money off the back of promoting their products so you can trust we are impartial.

Whey Protein / Vegan Protein shake

  • Provides a fast digesting protein hit.
  • Excellent for kick-starting recovery post workout.
  • Great for stirring in to your morning porridge!
  • Assists in muscle growth / strength
  • Can be used as part of a fat loss plan
  • Contains around 30g protein per serving
  • Can provide a sweet fix when on a calorie controlled diet

Increasing your protein is one of the first steps you should make when trying to improve your lifestyle. People may struggle to eat 100g+ protein a day so a supplement may be required.

Look for a protein powder that is at least 80% protein or higher. Products with lower levels tend to contain more fat, carbs or in some cases sugar.

Our Pick:

Bulk Powders Pure Whey isolate 90

Great product that is 90% protein. It’s also an isolate which is great if you struggle digesting lactose.

Found naturally in meat (particularly red meat) creatine allows a molecule called ATP to regenerate in the muscles.

ATP is the power output that supplies energy to your muscles. When creatine stores in your muscles are low, energy output decreases as a result.

It is unlikely that you can get enough through diet alone.

Therefore supplementing with creatine allows you to saturate the muscles, allowing you to lift more weight, run further and perform better in the gym.

  • Supplies muscle cells with ATP to produce energy
  • Involved in adding strength and size to muscles
  • Can promote fat loss
  • Speeds up muscle growth
  • Can improve tiredness and fatigue
  • Relatively inexpensive

Our Pick:

Protein Works Creatine Monohydrate Powder:

Fast absorbing 100% creatine powder with no fillers

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a vitamin obtained from spending time in sunlight. Unfortunately working in dull office blocks or living in less sunny climbs means you may be deficient in vitamin D.

A shocking 50% of the world’s population is deficient in this important vitamin.

Found in fatty fish such as salmon as well as egg yolks and cheese this vitamin has so many benefits to the body.

  • Can improve physical performance
  • Can aid weight loss
  • Essential for absorbing calcium
  • Prevents osteoporosis and fractures
  • Strengthens bones
  • Deficiency linked to obesity
  • Can help boost immunity

Our Pick:

Myprotein Vitamin D3 Capsules

Pure Vitamin D3 at a manageable dose for the body

Omega 3 Fish oil

Omega-3 fish oil contains both docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). A good supplement provides a good dose of both.

Omega 3 cannot be produced by the body so it is essential it comes from your diet.

Obviously it is available from fish! In particular from fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel. So if you are eating these a couple of times per week a supplement may not be necessary.

However it has so many benefits that it won’t do any harm to use a supplement if you feel you are falling a little short.

  • Can help with fat loss
  • Vital to joint health
  • Good for heart health and blood pressure
  • Anti-inflammatory and helps the immune system
  • Healthy skin and can treat skin conditions

Our Pick

Bulk Powders Super Strength Omega 3 softgels

High strength with a perfect balance of  EPA and DHA

The supplement is a big market and there are so many products available now it’s hard to know which products are going to help you.

The four I have recommended to you on this page are suitable for any goal.

However if you are thinking of using something else such as pre workouts, glutamine or bcaas I can’t recommend using enough to see if it’s right for you.

Keep in mind that you are SUPPLEMENTING with these products

there is no substitute for normal food
